Course Descriptions
Sixth Grade Treble Choir Syllabus
|
Goal:To ignite a life-long passion for continued learning about and performance of vocal music.
|
Description: The sixth grade treble choir is a year long course in which students actively participate in learning the fundamentals of correct vocal technique.Students learn to process and perform the basics of music theory, the fundamentals of sight singing with solfeggio, and correct stage presence in alignment with state and national standards for music education.
|
Concert Attire: Young men are to wear dress pants and dress shoes with either a polo shirt or a button down the fron dress shirt, tucked in with no tie. Young women are to wear a dress or blouse and skirt that follows the school dress code (high neckline, shoulders covered, no shorter than 4" above the knee).
|
Evaluation: Students will be evaluated daily on their contribution level to the choir. Students will also be evaluated weekly in one or more of the following areas: theory, sight singing, or rhythmic and singing performance. In addition, students will periodically track their own personal growth through the use of rubrics.

Standards Addressed: Singing alone, and with others; playing instruments alone and with others; reading, notating, and interpreting music; improvising melodies and accompaniments; composing and arranging music; listening to, analyzing, and describing music; evaluating music and music performances.

Seventh Grade Concert Choir Syllabus

Goal:To ignite a life-long passion for continued learning about and performance of vocal music.
|
Description: The seventh grade choir is a year long course in which students actively participate in furthering their choral music education through a spiraled and sequential curriculum. Students continue to study, develop, process, and apply the correct techniques of choral singing and correct vocal technique, while also learning more in-depth applications of harmony and complex rhythms, chromatic sight singing with solfeggio, and correct stage presence in alignment with state and national standards for music education.

Concert Attire: formal attire provided by the choral department. Each young man will need to provide his own black socks and black dress shoes. Each young lady will need to provide her own skin toned nylons and dress shoes (no flip-flops or sports bras) |
Evaluation: Students will be evaluated daily on their contribution level to the choir. Students will also be evaluated weekly in one or more of the following areas: theory, sight singing, or rhythmic and singing performance. In addition, students will periodically track their own personal growth through the use of rubrics.

Eighth Grade Chorale Syllabus

Goal:To ignite a life-long passion for continued learning about and performance of vocal music.

Description: The eighth grade choir is a, lab-style year long course in which students actively participate in furthering their choral music education through a spiraled and sequential curriculum. Students continue to study, develop, process, and apply the correct techniques of choral singing and correct vocal technique, while also learning more in-depth applications of harmony and complex rhythms, chromatic sight singing with solfeggio, and correct stage presence in alignment with state and national standards for music education

Sixth Grade Vocal General Music-Syllabus

Description: The sixth grade vocal general music class is a quarter long course in which students will be introduced to the fundamentals of correct vocal technique, basics of music theory, fundamentals of sight singing with solfeggio, and correct stage presence in alignment with state and national standards for music education.

Evaluation: Students will be evaluated daily on their contribution level to the choir. Students will also be evaluated weekly in one or more of the following areas: theory, sight singing, or rhythmic and singing performance. In addition, students will periodically track their own personal growth through the use of rubrics.

Requirements: Binder replacement cost is $1.50 for excessive wear and tear.

Seventh Grade General Music Syllabus

Goal:
To ignite a life-long passion for continued learning about and performance of music.

|
Description: Students will actively participate while learning and applying the fundamentals of music education and theory through the mediums of: guitar, piano, and voice. Students will learn basic theory, and then apply their knowledge immediately to the guitar, piano, and voice to facilitate a more in-depth understanding of music performance.
|
|
Requirements: Guitars and pianos will be provided, but students are welcome to bring in their own acoustic guitar if they wish. Students will be required to treat all school provided equipment with great respect to avoid an instrument replacement assessment charge ($150 per guitar, $35 per case). Binder replacement cost is $1.50 for excessive wear and tear.

Evaluation: Students will be evaluated with written, playing, and singing tests as identified by performance rubrics.
