Instructions
for Making Graphs in Excel
1. Enter your data in
the spreadsheet –
What you want to appear on your x-axis (often your independent variable) should be entered in the first column (ie. Column A)
What you want to appear on your y-axis (often your dependent variable) should be entered in the second column (ie. Column B)
If you have more than one set of data for the same graph this can be entered in subsequent columns (ie. Columns C, D, etc.)
2. Select
the data that you want to graph by taking you mouse and placing it over
the
first box you want to include, then holding
the left
side of the mouse down, drag the mouse to highlight all of you data.
3. Select
the icon that looks like a graph from the choices above the spreadsheet. This will open the “chart wizard” for
you.
4. Choose
the chart/graph type your want to create.
5. When
you get to chart options, be sure to title your graph, and create
labels for
the X and Y axis.
6. If
you want to create a graph on a separate sheet then choose that. If you
want it included with the
information you entered on your spreadsheet then place it there.
